Flute Lessons

If you are a motivated and dedicated student, you have come to the right place! Together, we will identify your goals and work collaboratively to achieve them. We will cover many aspects of music study, including theory and history, as well as a variety of literature. My studio has a grand piano, recording equipment, and all students will have full use of the Tomplay library for accompaniment during lessons.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

How much do you charge for lessons?

Each student who is interested in lessons will get one free introductory lesson. Lessons are available in increments of 30, 45, and 60 minutes. Please contact me for rates.

What if I need to miss a lesson?

Remember to take flute lessons into account when scheduling other activities and appointments. There will be a set weekly lesson time for each student. Lesson times cannot be moved from week to week. Lessons are to be paid the first week of the month for the full month. In order to receive a refund or credit, 24 hours notice is required in advance of canceling a lesson, unless due to illness or family emergency. In the case of inclement weather, there will be no lesson if school is canceled.

How much do I need to practice?

When you are a member of my flute studio, there is an expectation that you will engage in regular, conscientious practice. Students should plan to set aside at least 30 minutes per day, three to five time per week for practice, more during “busy” seasons such NYSSMA solos and upcoming auditions. I often hear parents say that they “just want lessons to be fun” or ”my child does not have time to practice.” Just like playing a sport, learning how to play an instrument can be hard work at times. You wouldn’t show up on game day without having done any preparation, right? Studying a musical instrument is the same way. We will work together to determine the best course of study, including what and how to practice.

When are lessons taught?
